Photographed by Karella Mara Raffinan for Cocoon, Tokyo 2024.
Sherry Zheng is a Chinese-Australian photographer based in Eora/Sydney. Through images, she explores themes of identity, family, and home in a diasporic context, often utilising nostalgia to examine our relationship with documentation/memory.
Having moved from translation/publishing in Tokyo, to the medium of photography when returning to Eora/Sydney in 2020, Sherry began to hone her own style and interest as a documentary photographer.
With an enduring interest in tangibility and printed matter, Sherry currently trains in and utilises analogue processes throughout her works.
Like words, images act as a language that she uses to traverse linguistic barriers, generational gaps, and other differences to tell a story.
